IRCC publishes a processing time per country of residence, updated weekly. It is a historical average of applications already decided, not a promise about yours. The same visa can take a few weeks in one country and several months in another.
What the clock includes
The published time starts when a complete application is received, not when you begin it. Biometrics are a common hidden delay: the clock effectively pauses until they are collected, and appointment availability varies by city.
What moves it
A complete file moves faster than a fast service. Requests for additional documents add weeks each time. Applications with clear purpose, consistent dates and traceable funds are less likely to trigger one.
Planning around it
Apply as early as the rules allow, and avoid buying non-refundable travel before a decision. A visa is not a guarantee of entry — admission is decided at the border.
